Serving in the military often comes with immense sacrifice—physically, emotionally, and psychologically. While bravery and resilience are deeply ingrained in military culture, so too are silent struggles with PTSD, moral injury, anxiety, depression, survivor’s guilt, and relationship stress.
If you or a loved one has served, you may be carrying the weight of military trauma that still lingers long after coming home. At Mindful Mountain Counseling, I specialize in working with veterans, active duty service members, and military families to help heal the invisible wounds of war and service.
What Is Military Trauma?
Military trauma encompasses a wide range of experiences that impact mental health, including:
Combat exposure
Survivor's guilt
Traumatic brain injuries (TBIs)
Sexual trauma in the military (MST)
Moral injury (feeling broken by things done, witnessed, or endured during service)
Transition stress after leaving the military
Loss of identity or purpose post-discharge
Many veterans experience post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) or other trauma-related symptoms—such as flashbacks, nightmares, avoidance, hypervigilance, or difficulty trusting others. These are not signs of weakness; they are natural responses to unnatural events.
How I Help Veterans and Their Families
As a licensed therapist with specialized training in EMDR, ACT, PET, DBT, and trauma-informed care, I offer evidence-based treatment designed to help you process trauma, regain a sense of control, and rebuild your life on your own terms.
My Approach Includes:
🟢 EMDR Therapy for Military TraumaEye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a highly effective treatment for PTSD. It helps the brain reprocess painful memories so they no longer cause the same emotional intensity. EMDR is used widely in VA settings and recommended by the Department of Defense and APA.
🟢 Prolonged Exposure Therapy (PET)This approach helps clients reduce fear and anxiety by gradually confronting trauma-related memories and situations. It’s especially effective for combat trauma, panic symptoms, and avoidance behavior.
🟢 Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)ACT helps veterans reconnect with their core values and build a life worth living, even in the presence of painful memories or emotions. It emphasizes resilience, meaning, and post-traumatic growth.
🟢 Mindfulness and Somatic ToolsI integrate body-based practices and mindfulness strategies to support nervous system regulation, especially for clients living in chronic states of hyperarousal or dissociation.
